First post! Worthington Farm at Monocacy Battlefield

I’m experimenting with the concept of a blog. It feels archaic. Or maybe cool like Rookie Mag? Either way, social media has been such a shit show that it’s time to try something else. I have always been a website girl – I love looking at other photographers’ websites. I have a folder on my bookmarks tab with a long, growing list of websites for artists whom I love, but that I know I would forget to check up on if I didn’t have a constant reminder of their work. The very first thing I added to the list was Fotoroom. What ever happened to them? (Coincidentally, one of the four things I have on my bookmarks tab is my favorite Rookie Mag story of all time. RIP.)

This past week has been unusually frigid in Frederick. Today, we had a melty reprieve, and Joni, Davy, Nakoa, and I went to Worthington Farm at Monocacy Battlefield. The river was still pretty frozen, though, and Nakoa managed to sneak onto the ice without us noticing. It was almost too cute to tell him to get back here.

Nakoa, Joni, and Davy doing some bird watching.

We also found this super cool tree that was giving Game of Thrones (never seen it tbh) so we all took pics in it.

Me in the tree!

Joni in the tree!

Davy in the tree!

Nakoa in the tree!

I’m carrying an automatic Canon 35mm camera and my beloved Holga 120. I always think about Sally Mann’s photos of Antietam whenever we are on a battlefield. We’ll see how these photos turn out! I’m most looking forward to photos of some cows in the snow I took with the Holga.

The last time I shot with my Holga, however, I got these really interesting lightning bolt marks on my film. A fellow photographer told me it was most likely from static charge on the film and advancing too quickly. I’m hoping my cows are okay, but I wouldn’t be too mad if it happened again.

I intend to keep up with this blog as a personal journal, but with snippets of life I don’t mind sharing. I hope I can keep connected with other artists. Instagram seems like it’s going by the wayside (I left Facebook and Twitter a while ago. Should I get back on tumblr?).

Anyways, I’d love to connect. Reach out to me anytime! Bye!
